Where to Download .NET Framework 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5 for Windows 8?

Filled under:

Do you want to know where to get .NET Framework V2.0, V3.0 and V3.5 for Windows 8? If yes follow the steps below on how to download and install it on your machine.

There are lots of applications which can’t be installed on Windows 8 if .NET Framework 2.0, 3.0 or 3.5 is not installed on your computer. For example: Windows Live Writer, online games and many more.

When you install Windows 8 on your computer for the first time, you will notice that only .NET Framework v4.0 is installed on it (C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET). That’s why some programs require you to install the old versions first to proceed with the installation.

Download and Install .NET Framework V2.0.50727, V3.0 and 3.5

Step 1: Go to this link: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=22
Don’t be confused with “Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1”. The whole package includes V3.0 and V2.0. It’s more convenient compared to manually downloading and installing each version.

Step 2: Choose your preferred language.

Step 3: Click Download button.

Step 4: Locate dotnetfx35setup.exe from your hard drive or download folder. Run it as administrator (Right click file –> Run as administrator) or Click Yes when you get User Account Control warning message.

Step 5: Click Download and install this feature button.

Step 6: Wait for the download and installation process to finish.

Step 7: You may now install those programs that require old versions of .NET framework.

Make Google the Default Search Engine on IE10

Filled under:

Internet Explorer 10 is the default browser of Windows 8. If you have already upgraded to Win 8, you might have experienced using it already. Or if you are using Windows 7, you might have upgraded from IE 9 to IE10.

You might have observed that Bing is the default search engine on Internet Explorer. No wonder as it is owned by Microsoft. It’s the same thing both on Windows 7 or 8. Bing is always the default search provider unless you changed it manually.

If you prefer to use Google Search rather than Bing, follow the steps below to re-configure your Internet Explorer 10.

Change Default Search Provider on Internet Explorer 10

Step 1: Launch Internet Explorer 10.

Step 2: Click the gear icon (Tools) at the top-right corner then select Manage add-ons from the drop-down options.

Step 3: Under Add-on Types tab, select Search Providers. You’ll see that the default search engine is Bing. If not, you might have changed it already or a program that you’ve recently installed on your PC changed it.

Step 4: Click Find more search providers… link at the bottom part of Manage Add-ons window.

Step 5: A new IE window will pop-up and you’ll be redirected to Internet Explorer Gallery website.

Step 6: Under Search Providers tab, click Google logo.

Step 7: In the next page, click Add to Internet Explorer button.

Step 8: Add Search provider mini-window will pop-up. Put a checkmark on Make this my default search provider and Use search suggestions from this provider.

Google is now the default search provider on your Internet Explorer. You can test it by opening a new tab then make a search. It is advisable to re-launch IE10 before doing so.

Alternative Method

You may also add Google Search on IE10’s search providers list by going to this link:

Click Add to Internet Explorer button and follow step 8 above.

Note: Changing the search engine provider will not affect the default homepage of IE10.

View PDF Files on Internet Explorer 10

Filled under:

Like Google Chrome, you can also use Internet Explorer to view PDF (Portable Document Format) files. 10 is the latest version of IE and it is pre-installed on Windows 8 system. It is also compatible with Windows 7.

When I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8 Pro, I can’t view my PDF files on IE 10. It keeps on opening the Download window every time I drag a PDF over to a new tab. I was able to fix the issue by doing the steps below. It is recommended to install Adobe Reader on your system to be able to get the ‘Adobe PDF Link Helper’ add-on for IE10. Without it, you won’t be able to view PDF files on IE10.

Enable Adobe PDF Link Helper Add-on

Before you proceed with the steps below, check the Manage add-ons window. You might have installed Adobe Reader already and Adobe PDF Link Helper was disabled. You can re-enable it by clicking the gear icon at the top-right hand corner of IE window then select Manage add-ons. Locate ‘Adobe PDF Link Helper’ under Toolbars and extensions. If the status is disabled, highlight the add-on then click Enable button. Re-launch IE10 then try to open a PDF file.

If no Adobe PDF Link Helper is listed, proceed with the following steps:

Step 1: Download the latest version of Adobe Reader here: http://get.adobe.com/reader/

You can use any internet browser to download Adobe Reader like IE, Mozilla or Google Chrome.

Step 2: Proceed with the installation. When you get User Account Control warning message, click Yes.

Don’t launch Internet Explorer during installation. Close all IE window.

Step 3: After installation, launch Internet Explorer and you’ll get a warning message like this:

The 'Adobe PDF Link Helper' add-on from 'Adobe Systems, Incorporated' is ready for use. Enable or Disable?

Step 4: Click Enable button.

Step 5: You can now view your PDF files on IE.

Viewing PDF files

To open a PDF file on IE10 instead of Adobe Reader, you can just simply drag it to an empty tab. IE will read and open it immediately.

Prevent a Program from Changing Default Search Provider on IE10

Filled under:

There are a lot of third-party software nowadays that ask permission whether to install a third party toolbar, another free program, download a free e-book or even change the default search engine on internet browsers installed on your PC. For example:uTorrent.

It is recommended that you always look at the installation window or whenever you hit the NEXT button. People are used to clicking the ‘Next’ button to finish the installation of a program immediately. Time will come that they will discover that there’s something going on with their system. There might be a minor change or a big trouble happened.

In this guide, we’ll just focus on preventing third-party software from changing the default search engine on Internet Explorer 10 in Windows 7 or 8. In the future, even if you have neglected the option to decline the change on search provider, IE will block it and notify you instead.

Prevent a Program from Changing Default Search Engine on IE10

Step 1: Launch Internet Explorer 10.

Step 2: Click the gear icon (Settings) at the upper-right hand corner of the window. It is located below the X-button (Close)

Step 3: Select Manage Add-ons from the drop-down options.

Step 4: Under Add-on Types, select ‘Search Providers’.

Step 5: Put a checkmark on ‘Prevent programs from suggesting changes to my default search provider’.

Prevent programs from suggesting changes to my default search provider option on IE10Step 6: Click Close button.

You’re done. IE’s default search engine will no longer be changed automatically without your consent.

If you have upgraded from IE9 to IE10 in Windows 7, your previous settings will be kept and applied on the newest version. You can check it by following the steps above as well.
